A new papermakers’ union has been formed in the Indian city of Thailan.
The union, the papermakers union, aims to organise workers at papermaking plants, as well as those making paper products.
“The union aims to have about 3,000 members in Thailans’ papermakers and paper products industries,” a union statement said.
“We aim to have an impact on the industry through our presence and our campaigning efforts.”
The papermakers have been in crisis in the city since 2014 when a fire engulfed a factory.
The blaze left more than 200 workers dead and left the entire city in ruins.
But with a new generation of workers entering the workforce, the industry is now booming, and the union hopes to see it expand its reach beyond its factory.
